Lucky Lake became an incorporated village on November 23, 1920. It sits in the Rural Municipality of Canaan No. 225, at the junction of Highways 42, 45 and 646, about 90 kilometres northeast of Swift Current.
Farming has long been the heart of the local economy. Durum and spring wheat, peas, lentils and canola are the typical crops in the area, with flax, beans and mustard grown to a lesser extent. Water from nearby Lake Diefenbaker allows irrigation, so crops such as potatoes can be grown as well.
The province's SPUDCO partnership once tried to build a potato industry, which created local jobs growing and packaging potatoes. SPUDCO eventually failed, and the local potato industry has been slow to recover. Today Wild West Steelhead raises steelhead trout in the lake and employs many people, from egg incubation through to finished fillets.
Visitors can find Palliser Regional Park and the Riverhurst Ferry close by.
